User's notes

Third of three gang-gang cockatoo pairs spotted around Red Hill today between 0730-0800, with approximately ten minutes and 1.5km between sightings. Time-distance differential suggests three distinct pairs. Coordinates estimated. Female at this site observed examining and partially entering hollow tree branch; however, space appeared rather small for potential nest. She may have simply been foraging.

The smallest hollow entrance that we have recorded at a successful breeding site was 16cm x 12cm, so yes they need a reasonably large hollow.

Thanks for that info. This hollow looked just big enough for the bird to shimmy inside herself (it was rather comical, watching her tailfeathers waggle out the end of a broken branch)! I'll keep an eye out for any activity at more spacious hollows with nest potential.
