User's notes

Five males and one female. The male pictured may be partially melanistic - part of the face and the tips of crest are dark grey. Three of four males spent some time peering into hollows in three different trees. All males spent time snipping off branches. No feeding was observed. The most likely hollow tree is pictured. The higher hollow faces east and the one just below that faces north-east. The tree is on the south side of the fire trail and can easily be seen from the fire trail. A male peered into the lower of two hollows before flying about 20m to another perch. Here he was joined by a female. Unfortunately I did not catch where the female started her flight but it was in a direct line from one of the hollows being used as a starting point. The five birds remained in the area for over an hour. Later still I saw a single bird, probably a female, flying high and fast in a westerly direction from the original location. Happy to discuss as required.

Checked this at 9 am today. Female present at hollow directly facing the viewer in image 2. She stayed outside the hollow. Male neither observed nor heard.
