The mushrooms were collected from the dead material at the base of a Themeda tussock. While there were few mushrooms on this tussock, there were many tussocks in the general area and this fungus was common. I stopped counting when I reached 200, probably no more than 20 metres from where I'd collected - and a longer walk around a few hundred square metres showed there to be many more Crinipellis-bearing Themeda tussocks. I didn't see the fungus associated with any other grasses.
