User's notes
There were a few Dusky Moorhens on the east bank of the creek but this was the only one I saw near the water. It was preening itself on this half-submerged branch. It preened and fluffed itself up on the branch for a little before it went into the water to swim across to the east bank, seen behind it in the photo.
