First record from the eastern side of Mt Ainslie/Majura. Very interested in all sightings of Goannas within these reserves to help us estimate total population size and movement range of individuals

From cropping down to just the left and right face, I can see this is not Rex, the male that helped Rosie guard her eggs in 2015, nor is it Roxy, another breeding female, and I think it is probably not Rosie herself (it also looks too large for her but apparent size in photos is a perilous thing to go by). It looks like it may be a presumed male photographed running away by a member of public at Ainslie Quarry several years ago. Would it be possible for you to email me a photo at full size please? If this goanna is like ones in Naas Valley, I expect he will very soon move away from these rabbit warrens to a high west facing rocky slope to choose a winter burrow.

I later got good face photos from someone else who got close to this individual and it is a new individual, so this is the 5th Rosenberg's Goanna we have face photos from. on Mt Ainslie.
This goanna looks full and apparently was checking out rabbit warrens so maybe he wants a rabbit burrow to lie in for a few days while he digests the meal.
