I went looking in this stand of casuarinas for glossy black cockatoos - I thought there might have been some refugees from the fires at the coast. Instead, I was astonished when I looked up, and saw, maybe 4m from the ground (last photo) this male superb lyrebird! The bird was just sitting there, quietly, and when we moved away, it moved up the tree. The stand of trees was in the middle of fairly cleared land. It had gone half an hour later. I felt incredibly privileged.
