Examination by the late Alan Wilton at UNSW, of DNA samples from >200 killed by the ACTGOV dogger over many years, in park boundary areas and adjacent grazing properties, shows the most accurate term for the animals in this population is 'dingo', given that the statistical distribution is heavily skewed into his (statistically defined) pure dingo zone. Many ACT region animals have a little bit of non-dingo ancestry as well, but the dingo genetics have prevailed to a remarkable degree. There is argument over the scientific name too, with the most recent commentary ('The Dingo Debate' book by Brad Smith in 2015) claiming the original 'Canis dingo' has never been formally replaced and is correct (rather than the more recently popular Canis familiaris dingo and Canis lupus dingo).
