I have pulled out a fair number of Galium aparine and this plant did not have the same habit, the leaves are smaller and a different colour.

Call it Galium sp. then. You need flowers and seed cases to ID Galium to species level. The leaves of the native species of Galium are usually in whorls of 4. This plant has 6, at least in the whorls I counted.
