Not a Little Eagle but a Whistling Kite.

Hi Natureguy
Now I'm really confused. What features make this a Kite? Thanks Peter

Hi Peter,

You can compare with this sighting of a Little Eagle at your property. (Bird of prey Hieraaetus morphnoides (Little Eagle) on 6 Jul 2019)

Little Eagles have a much more distinctive underwing pattern. They are usually paler (there is lots of white in your Little Eagle sighting). Whistling Kites are a bit larger. They also have much plainer colouration in general, especially on the head. The Whistling Kite also has a longer, larger tail than the Little Eagle.

Thanks, Luke

Thanks Luke. I have actually done that already and I can see the difference.
Thanks for that, Peter
