Was it growing in a garden or inside? In Canberra this fungus is usually found in glasshouses or with indoor pot plants. I have seen it once outside in a yard - but well-sheltered by a tree.

Outside in a pot in a sheltered area. Very possible some of the soil could include potting mix that used to be the medium for an indoor plant
