To me there seem to be quite a few candidates for speci.es which would possibly match this caterpillar which show the same general 'inch worm ' characteristics within the family Geometridae. A side view showing the leg pattern would help more and a side-on of the mouth parts and or rear of the caterpillar.I am open to be corrected but have not been able to find an image of a species which matches this image.

I'll go out tomorrow and see if it is still there. I want to investigate some possible eggs in the same area anyway.

Yes, rearing caterpillars and growing them out to adults on a collected native food plant would reveal a lots about many Australian moth species whose life histories are poorly known.

The two red horns on the head appears to be characteristic of Chlorocoma species, see

I went out but couldn't find it. Did find another wonderful caterpillar though. I grew the caterpillar up for sighting
