Just as I was about to take a photo of the underside of this dead beetle, and after dropping it a couple of times, it got up and walked off.

Playing dead is a common defensive trait in these weevils and can be very realistic

Possibly Amycterus morbillosus. The environment at the location is atypical for Amycterus abnormis, which seems to favour drier and more open environments at lower altitudes.
