Waltraud, could you organise a specimen for the herbarium please. I don’t know of any local Wahlenbergia that has hairy leaves.

For reference: location is pretty exact...it was off-trail as marked. There were a few shrubs of Stypandra glauca in the surrounding area and it was a little elevated, from memory. I remember walking downslope to the trail.

Betty I'm not sure whether I can do it myself

PeterSan would you be able to help?
if you find this Bluebell here is what you need to do ...
dig out the whole plant, get as much of the root as possible put in plastic bag with a few drops of water and drop at my place
or
put between newspaper sheets spreading the specimen as good as you can ie make sure the hairs can be seen, and drop at my place
I would give it to a botanist to id the species and bring to the herbarium at the Bot Gardens should it turn out that it is new for the area.

Thanks Waltraud. One extra thing, PeterSan, if putting the plant between newspaper. If you have a heavy book big enough to put the sheets between, press the specimen flat.
It is unlikely that any Wahlenbergia growing in the ACT is an annual, so if getting the root out is too hard, don’t worry.
For casual readers. Only people who hold a current collecting permit can legally dig native plants up in most of Canberra.

thanks Betty
need to discuss then whether to get a permit; a botanist told me that we should provide a specimen to the herbarium when we find a species that has not been recorded for the area Mts Majura/Ainslie. I did that with a few species, for instance Ferns and Clubmosses Marsilea mutica (Nardoo) on 6 Jan 2016 without permit, I'm afraid.

Michael M was organising permits for CNM. I don’t know how far this has got.
