Hi Michael M and Rosemary
The drooping habit of this specimen makes it look more like Cenchrus setaceus:

I'll be able to get the correct id from the herbarium specimen; it will take a few weeks though before it will be out of the freezer.

Thanks Rosemary
For the moment, I'll remove the confirmation by MM and it can sit in the Unidentified until the herbarium responds. The ALA will pick it up as a valid sighting if we leave it as it is.

I've just keyed the specimen out in AusGrass2 and checked against herbarium specimens & can confirm it's Cenchrus setaceus. Cenchrus setaceus has hairy bristles surrounding the spikelets (flowers); the bristles are glabrous in Cenchrus purpuascens.

Thanks Rosemary
I'll report this one to the ACT Invasive Weeds Officer.
To quote from Michael M "African Fountain Grass is a species that we are trying to eradicate in the ACT, before it becomes widespread."

Thank you for the report. The City Services environmental weed sprayers team (based at La trobe Park depot) will be head out there tomorrow. Interestingly this may have spread from a nearby site they been controlling over a number of years.
