The authors of Moths of Victoria (Part 7) identified four Cleora (g.) species groups, but they were unable to assign their specimens to named species. Their species groups are variable, but their supporting CD provides clear criteria to separate the 4 species groups based on specimen size and markings. I think this specimen would probably fall into their ‘Cleora sp. 2)’ group: i.e. medium size (30-34 mm.); bold pattern, buff patches; forewing line scalloped, discal spot oval well defined; hindwing line scalloped, dip in centre, discal spot rounded; and the thorax/abdomen shows a prominent pale fringe at the junction. They say ‘Cleora sp. 2)’ includes occurrences at some Victorian alpine localities and occurs in the ACT and NSW.
