Possibly another remnant planting from pre Nature Reserve times

Two types of Plane trees have mainly been planted in Canberra. Plantanus Xacerifolia which has shallowly lobed leaves and spotted smooth trunk bases. It is a hybrid between American Plane Tree and the Oriental Plane Tree P. orientalis. The Oriental Plane Tree is the other commonly planted plane tree in Canberra it has deeply dissected leaves and a rough-barked lower trunk.

I know the 2 different types and their differences. There is a forest of Platanus orientalis at the arboretum and most of the suburban shopping car parks seem to have the London plane. The 2 types are planted side by side at the ANU on the Lindsay Prior walk, so useful for comparison.
