only saw a single clump in this area

The members of that Rhodofomitopsis complex have pinkish-lilac colours. Some of the individuals in this clump have upper surfaces with algal colonies. A number of Trametes species have at least some bands with short to long hairs and such areas may trap algal cell and these, under suitable conditions, will develop into extensive colonies over the fungal surface.
