This was a proper mushroom shape with white gills. Just about at the top of Mt Franklin and a bit of a surprise though it's Autumn.

Possibly a species of Amanita, probably more so than other possible candidates such as Lepiota, Macrolepiota and Chlorophyllum. An image of the stipe (stem) showing the presence of any structure at the base, or of a ring of tissue on the stipe would have been useful. Have to wait and see what Heino has to say on this one.

Probably about 8cms across and very close to the ground. Snowy white gills. Sorry about the lack of photo. :-)
