I have often wondered how dependent larger Rosenberg's Monitors are on rabbits - in the absence of the original native ground layer rodents and marsupials that they included in their diet.
I am certain that rabbits make up a huge part of their diet now, based on what we have seen. We have accidentally trapped Rosenberg's twice in our rabbit traps... I am almost certain that the smell attracted them. We now check all our rabbit warrens with a camera before fumigating. Most of our rabbits use "hides" which I am sure the monitors (and snakes) appreciate. ;)
