User's notes

Group of plants possibly suckers. Compound leaves about 40cm long, leaflets around 5-7cm. Leaf attachment scar 8mm.

A Winter mystery. It will probably have to wait until Spring. It is a remote patch in the pines that I rarely visit (because it is hard to find).

Mike I have seen leaf scars like this on tree of heaven (hell) do you think that this is what it could be?

It seems to match the description in https://keyserver.lucidcentral.org/weeds/data/media/Html/ailanthus_altissima.htm as far as I can tell without seeing green leaves and flowers. Its location in the pines is probably keeping it low and shrubby.
