User's notes

This is the oldest live tree in the woodland - it has been identified as an apple box by several foresters and estimates of its age range from 250-500 years. Unfortunately it is being crowded out by surrounding plantings made in the last 60-70 years. There are about 150 apple trees in the woodland. Trunk girth at 130cm height is 3.975

Interesting bark cutting at the base of the trunk there

The shape of the scar is a bit unusual. I have taken some more photos of the scar, the foresters seemed to think it was an old fire scar. Any other ideas?

Probably is a fire scar being at ground level like that, i just thought the squarish shape was a bit peculiar.

Agree but I have never seen a fire scar so square.
