Ryu, I agree, the cap is through the eye not below but to be sure Qwerty do you have any other images of this bird? Chris

It also has the yellow oval between the eye and the beak as seen in more clearly in their breeding plumage - I don't think Hoary-headeds have that at any point. The raised fluffed wing posture and chestnut-brown wash on flanks as also favours A.Grebe. I'm willing to confirm since you agree and with your added point about the line of the cap

And I think that part of Kelly's Swamp may be too shallow for Hoary-headeds. Only recall seeing Aus Grebe on that section
