Suggested identification is of the fungus. For the algae growing on it I would need to see a much closer image of the individual algal cells.

Depends on the species but generally in the range of low tens of µm to several hundred µm, so you need to photograph them with a compound microscope fitted with objectives in the 10x-60x magnification range. I've been putting some algal images up in the other cryptogam category http://canberra.naturemapr.org/Community/Categories/Details/105 I will place a scale on the next lot of images I submit.
