User's notes

Probably only 10-12 mm long. I didn't even notice it at first, until I saw it in the viewfinder when taking a photo of a Jade Hunter dragonfly. Is it just an odd looking Salticid?

Kim and Yumi - with Yumi's ID of another of my photos as Holoplatys lhotskyi, I am forced to wonder whether this individual is also of that species. The proportionality of cephalothorax and abdomen, and the details of the morphology and markings on the legs, to me are far more similar to the H lhotskyi spider than they are to the other record included under H. planissima. I acknowledge that the latter is a female, with a much more swollen abdomen, but still can find no deep similarities between these two, and more between this individual from Cotter River, and the H. lhotskyi from Smokers Gap. Any thoughts or comments? Harvey

Hi Harvey. Yes, I was going through all Holoplatys sightings yesterday and I did think the same thing after adding H. lhotskyi to the databse for your other sighting; I didn't get around to this one though. I'm glad you're following up with your sighting IDs so closely!!
H. lhotskyi as you have pointed out is quite distinct; particularly the white marking on the edging of the body (on the cephalothorax, it is very strong and most of the time, there are markings on the edges of the abdomen too) and on the legs. What also jumps out to me the most is just how flat it is and the positioning of the eyes to accommodate for this, which is different to other Holoplatys sp.
I agree that your sighting is suited to H. lhotskyi so I will confirm that for you.
If you are looking for resources, most of the ones I used yesterday for the ID of your other sighting should be on the species page for H. lhotskyi.
Kim - if you have any concerns, please let me know!
