The third photo was taken a week after the others, showing development of the samaras (fruit). My weeds book says "Primarily invasive along waterways and in sheltered moist forests" so I don't know why they are on top of Isaacs Ridge.

I have seen it form pretty dense thickets in the Adelaide Hills.One to cut and dab and climate change may favour it
