Looks like a slime mould plasmodium. What was the consistency of this growth? Hard; rubbery; like soft butter ....?

Hi Heino, I didn't touch it but it looked 'moist' and rubbery, similar to chewing gum, but the photo doesn't sufficiently depict the moist appearance. It was roughly the size of a tablespoon for some indication of size.

It seems reasonable to suppose that this is a myxomycete, no longer mobile but in the early stages of the development of the sporing body.
