This is one of those tricky ones. It looks like Pteridium esculentum, and if the fronds are leathery, that confirms it. But I can't rule out Pteris tremula. I'd bet on the former.

I think it would definitely be Pteridium esculentum. The fronds were very leathery and there was a lot of it in the area.
