ACT Bio Security priority weed list update

Today I met with Ian Lenon Team Leader from the ACT Bio Security team to get an understanding of how Ian's team use the platform to tune into and respond to any reports of invasive or high risk "priority" weeds in and around the ACT. It was a very informative and useful session.

We've updated this important list of priority species that the Bio Security team are actively monitoring:

ACT Priority Weeds - please report!

If you report anything on the list, the Bio Security team will be notified so they can make an informed decision re: whether to visit the site and blow it away. Some of these species have not entered the ACT yet, so it's important to report them because you may actually find the first one.

Thanks to the ACT Bio Security team for being so tapped into the powerful information coming in from the NatureMapr community.

Dear Admins,

The tool to add new species to a Species List (E.g. "ACT Priority Weeds - please report!") has been modernised to make it much easier to search for and select a species. The old triple dropdowns have been replaced with the easier quick search based tool with recent categories and species displayed.

The Bio Security team has been very responsive to several of the invasive weeds not on this list. Would the Bio Security team also be interested in these priority weeds if they are growing in suburban gardens? Lavender and Spanish heath are on Isaacs Ridge and yarrow is in a local garden. Does the brochure 'Are your garden plants going bush' still exist?

@Mike By all means report sightings in gardens that can be made from public land (We don't encourage trespassing). It is good to know what is out there and what has the possibility to be moving into reserves nearby. We have removed plants from private gardens after discussion with the owners in the past, however the legislation we have to work with can be tricky.
The "Are your garden plants going bush" brochure still exists but is in need of an update to include some of the newer species we are encountering.

Yes a big thank you to the fantastic effort of the Invasive Species team. It is great that a weed with a very high threat potential can be reported in teh morning and dealt with in the afternoon.
