A continuation of these strange deaths in shinglebacks at Mt Ainslie and Mt Majura. This one is not emaciated and doesn't appear to have been killed by dogs (usually the ventral body cavity is pierced by dogs teeth - although hard to see puncture wounds in the photos to be conclusive ). The eyes have been removed? and the cloacal area has been eaten (such as a raven might do??). It would be interesting to make shingle back models out of plaster and put them in the field with fauna detection cameras near them. Likely predators of shinglebacks are: dogs, foxes, cats, brown falcons, other large raptors? Could rats have attacked them in winter torpor?? It is worth reporting on these incidences of predation on shinglebacks as we may determine what is going on. WillO.

Thanks Will, I agree. We should try to establish any patterns and as much evidence as we can record.

I found 2 more dead ones today and have reported them.

I've also added a new custom attribute for shinglebacks called "Deceased" which should be checked now to flag any dead shingleback records.
