I'm not sure what these insects were but they appeared Sawfly-like in the way they were clumped together and elevated their front ends when disturbed by ants. They were sighted clumped together beneath a stick and don't appear to have emerged from the ground beneath them as it was mostly a rock slab. They had probably travelled together as a mass to this location, Sawfly-like. The ants approached this mass of insects very warily, collecting individuals or clumps of them before carrying them off.
