Two plants - one c. 1.5 m tall, and spreading, the other, a seedling (or a sucker) c.25 cm in height. Identified as Acacia decora on the following bases: the habit is identical to that of this species as it occurs in the areas north of the ACT; the shrub was in bud, while Acacia buxifolia are in flower at Black Mountain. Identification features that differ from A. buxifolia: branchlets ridged, reddish brown, leaves with two glands and prominent midrub. Peduncles with golden appressed hairs. Apparently a natural occurrence because it is far from any likely planted specimens from which it may have originated. The hot, dry gorge is likely excellent habitat, and hosts other western species (for example, there is a population of Acacia doratoxylon in the gorge of the Murrumbidgee near Scottsdale Reserve north of Bredbo).
