You may be right Adras, but I am concerned there is no reddening in the older flowers. C. amara seems to be very variable and I have not found a definitive description of its flower length. Have you found one? So I am not changing my id as yet.

Hi abread, I've gotten these two wrong so often that I've put a bit of effort in to telling them apart this year. The key in the 2015 paper by Kellermann uses the leaf shape and presence of stellate hairs to distinguish the two from each other, not flower length or colour. The colour change occurs in both species - I've been following individuals from both species this winter and have photos in my sightings of white C. sp. Floriferous and pink C. amara. The leaves in the last photo look like sp. Floriferous.

So I am keen to go find some and look for stellate hairs... leaf shape is a bit ifffy, + - terete for both of them.
