Can you tell me what were the nearby trees? Paxillus involutus appears near introduced trees but in Canberra we also have Austropaxillus, found near native trees.

I was wondering the same, and while there is a baeckea shrub nearby, I landed on the introduced variant as it was closer to a silver birch and lemon.

Oh well, it's one of those two. Identifying photos of mycorrhizal fungi in mixed native/exotic plantings can be a challenge.
