as a am not from Canberra. I am intrigued by all the sightings from the National Carillon? Are you all into bells or is it a well lit public place that attracts moths but does not have security (like Parliament House) and is not a public toilet/ATM etc (like I've been known to photograph interesting moths - but where cameras are not encouraged)

Hi @WendyEM I can't speak for the rest of the population, but personally, I can take or leave the bells. The Carillon is lit up overnight and attracts various insects. There are security checks throughout the night but not permanent on-site staff, hence it's possible to photograph the bugs.

Yes, lights on and accessible in a public place, all locked up at night. The bells are not to my taste either! Not sure as to the species. Doesn't look particularly like P. philostaura or P. mucida to my eye, but I'm open to suggestions.

In my experience various Philobota females are larger and look different to the males. Fingers crossed people can get in cop shots which can help with this.
