Given the roughly circular shape and the radially elongated pores, this makes me think of a Lentinus arcularius. You’d expect that species to have a cap atop a stem. Sometimes, polypores that normally have a stem and cap (or grow out bracket-like) produce flat fruitbodies if development has started on the lower side of a piece of wood, branch etc. Was this on the lower side of some wood? I can’t recall seeing Lentinus arcularius growing flat, like this, but given that I’ve seen such ‘abnormal’ behaviour in some other species why not with this species also?

Just clarifying one point. This sighting is not the way they normally start out. It shows the final, mature state that has developed in an unsual way. Normally you'd see some stem& cap growth.
