The red dorsal glands, one on each of the two antepenultimate segments, are characteristic of Lymantriinae larvae. The brown hairs by the head may distinguish it from other Lymantriinae species that have black larvae , such a Euproctis melanosoma.

The survival rate of caterpillars in the wild is less than 1%. Leaving it thee is a death sentence.
