Erebidae, Boletobiinae, looks very much like Eublemma amoena (introduced)

Well spotted, I have sent Ian a message about this. Previously these moths have been filed on NM as Acontiinae provisional species 1 see Acontiinae provisional species 1

See https://weeds.dpi.nsw.gov.au/Weeds/Details/252 which states that the Crown Moth was first introduced in 1998 as a bio control for scotch thistle but it doesn’t say where.

yes, I sent Ian that link. It has got me looking into images of other introduced biological control critters like on p.7 in https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/256655/Scotch-illyrian-and-stemless-thistle.pdf

New species Eublemma amoena has been added to Noctuoid moths.
Many thanks to John (jb2602) and Wendy (WendyEM) and DPRees 125 for the detective work documenting this.
It suggests to me that NatureMapr could justify adding a category of species, such as 'Introduced biological control agent', or similar. for species introduced into Australia (moths or otherwise) for that purpose.

I note that Bron's submission to NatureMapr of this species, then categorised by NatureMapr 'Acontiinae provisional species 1' was dated 12 February 2021. While Bron's photo of the speciee may have been taken on an earlier date, Bron's record may be one of the earliest records of this species in Australia available in the public domain. Well done Bron!

Just for the record, DPRees125 was also involved.

re 'Introduced biological control agent' - NM already has 2 of the 3 weevils introduced for same thistles Biological Control are already on site - Larinus latus (Onopordum seed weevil) and Lixus cardui (Thistle Stem-borer Weevil). Missing - rosette weevil(Trichosirocalus briesei)
