Lisa, this male could be L. submoerens (sometimes called a red-legged bee) but could also be L. moerens. I'm not aware of an easy way to distinguish.

I would say it is definitely either L. moerens or L. submoerens (without further study we can't say which name applies to which species). The hair bands are too narrow for L. australica and the hind femur and tibia are too narrow as well.

L. australica was a typographical error which I can't seem to delete.
