It was extraordinary - hope you do get to see one! I was so lucky - first the channel-billed cuckoo, then minutes later, this - what a day!

Very good find and only the second ever NatureMapr sighting for the Canberra & Southern Tablelands region of the Grey-furrowed rose chafer. Looks like an impressive scarab beetle, I'd love to see one too.

This one is a female, recognisable by the 3 teeth on the outside edge of the fore tibia. It is also more stocky than the male.

Very pretty! When I saw my first and so far, only one in the ANBG, Chris Moeseneder pointed out to me that T. kirbyi also occurs in our area and is best distinguished in the males by the shape of the claws on the front foot: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/199062525
Not sure if there is an easy feature to tell the females apart, but didn't get round to get that info from Chris.

Yeah there are more of these beetles in the area. Amazing looking thing. And there have been a pair of channel billed cuckoos all spring/summer. Usually there is only one.

Interesting - I'll look out for them in the bursaria. Are the adult channel-billed cuckoos still around? Because it seems like the fledgling has left, and I'm wondering if the parents have collected it and they're winging their way north . . .
