ABC local radio inundated with calls about the mass emergence of scarabs last night and what to do about them. Just turn off all lights did not occur to complainants.

@RogerF They are certainly hatching in the thousands at the moment. One of our dog meet-up group said they saw a huge ball of beetles, of at least three species, around a street lamp at Hawker one evening last week. The ball was about a metre in width.
