Unsure what these are but possibly Scale insects based on their shape and behaviour. There were what appeared to be tiny orange coloured nymphs adjacent to some of the insects, as seen in some of these images. It appears that the head end of the insects is at the narrow end of each oval shape. Thanks to Barbara for the initial sighting.
