The colour and size of the beetle would suggest it’s Melobasis thoracica (or it’s a tiny purple propinqua which sounds highly unusual)

If the ventral surface and legs are not covered in short coarse white setae (hairs) then this is definitely Melobasis thoracica.

From memory I put this up because it looked different to the proprinquas I had seen round at the same time.

Hard to tell for the legs but the face has white hairs I think

It does! And so have the legs! Well well well! But still, its too tiny for typical Melobasis propinqua. Interesting! All I can suggest is try to collect it if you see another, and forward to MarkH for study / inclusion in the Melobasis revision work. Cheers! Allen
