User's notes

Very distinct patch of ?fungi? on damp leaf mulch. Only patch that I could see in the area. Not sure how to count it... it's either "one patch" or "squillions of something".

Are you able to check it again and perhaps get some closer images?
Do the individual bodies have stalks? Are the tops now cracking and revealing a spore mass? If so what colour?

Apologies, I was out of town for a week and there's not much left of it now.
I've added a close-up from a previous photo - the individual bodies do seem to have (rather blobby) stalks, which matches my memory of it.

@jmcleod thanks for checking
suspect this will fall into the Didymiaceae family but just not enough detail to be certain; even so, its a terrific observation - hope you find plenty more.
