Hi Con, you are probably right about the path. Meat ants like a bit of clear space and plenty of sunshine. There is some published work on how meat ants can spread into bushland along fire trails. Cheers, Jon

Thanks, Jon. I don't know the foraging range but this nest is a long way from the nearest tree.
