Hard to tell from this photo, but it looks more like holly, Ilex aquifolium.

thanks Mike. I agree that it is hard to tell from the blurred photo plus they were tiny. Since we removed many Oregon Grape plants a bit further east in the same area before CNM and Field Maps I thought it is most likely Oregon Grape. The species grows in a garden abutting nature reserve to the west.

Oregon grape has pinnate leaves while Holly has leathery leaves usually with stiff edges. I went looking for some holly but I generally just pull it out without recording it; it doesn't form mats like Oregon grape and it not common near me.

Mike thanks heaps - the pinnate leaves, respectively the lack of pinnate leaves, have it ! I will changethe id accordingly. A new species for Mt Majura (Im afraid)
