The species are not easy to separate, but T. aeratus usually has wider (and more golden) bands than T. orientalis.

Thanks for the distinction Michael. The Trichos are out and about coinciding with the start of Hardenbergia flowering. Last week some were flying around a Hardenbergia on Black Mountain at midday at an air temp of only 9C plus wind chill, although there was some weak sunshine. Today it reached a max of 15C with strong sunshine.
