'Historic' photographs of African boxthorn at FoMM's project site The Fair; photos taken during the first survey of the area in summer 2010. There were single shrubs and several thickets of African boxthorn, the largest approximately 50m2 with huge rabbit warrens underneath. It took FoMM volunteers (never had help from land manager) months to tackle.
abread111 Still present on the government horse holding paddock I think. Volunteers are not permitted to tackle weeds in the horse paddock by threat of jail, and the manager of the horse paddocks would not tackle because pest plants other than those threatening stock perhaps, are not included in the management. Since 2008 when we started rabbit control program I asked land managers and Ministers etc to manage horse paddock surrounded on 3 sides by nature reserve concurrently to nature reserve. You may suggest but that is what they do: namely nothing...
