Very fragrant leaves. A herb-garden escapee?

This could be Mentha diemenica, which has grown in this part of Cooleman Ridge for many years. A native mint. I have some in my garden which was given to me by a previous Cooleman Ridge member. Linda

The leaves didn't look like Stachys arvensis, but the flowers didn't really look like Mentha diemenica either.

My mentha is much greener than your photo, in both the stem and the bracts. However, I pull mine out when they get too woody, and so the stems on mine are green. But the leaves are the same shape, with protruding nerves on the under-side of the leaf. And on closer inspection, the flowers are very similar. I'll see if I can send you a photo!

The corolla is lipped, which would eliminate mentha. I don't know Stachys arvensis overly well, but it matches the description from what I can see.

I'd agree with Ciaran, not a Mentha. Stachys arvensis was the only thing that immediately came to my mind, though there is of course the possibility that it could be some other less common exotic or garden escape that I'm not so familiar with, I'll get back to you soon
