User's notes

This is firmly an autumn-fruiting species, which is yet another locally which is fruiting early. What a weird year. My fave mushroom to eat, though...

Leccinum snelii confirmed by DNA analysis as specimens exhibit blueing at base of stem when cut. DNA analysis performed by Jason Dobry.

@Heino1 @Pam pretty nifty! I've been foraging and eating these for years, and though I had noted the blueing, recently another forager (who happens to be a research scientist) decided to sequence a sample and confirmed they are, in fact, not L scabrum at all (though just as delicious).

@pam haha, don't worry, it'll be lodged!! We have so many of them here, and I have jars and jars of dried ones!

The last time I had something interesting to lodge (an undescribed Sarcodon in 2021), CSIRO didn't have anyone who could handle it, so it went off to Dr Tom May in the Melbourne Herbarium. Do you happen to know if CSIRO are accepting mycological samples now?

If Heino doesn't accept them then the DAR Herbarium at Orange does.
