This is a pre-existing mature tree without hollows. This crack in the bark is relatively recent. Could it be that after 3 years of good rainfall the Cambium layer growth has outpaced the bark growth resulting in stretch marks up the trunk. Could this lead to long term problems with the tree if the Cambium layer also splits or gets attacked by insects?
